Storytelling through design: the details that define the experience

The first things you might notice when you enter any space are the major components of its design; the furniture, layout, colors and lighting. The combination of these components instantly set the mood for your experience and provide a functionality to how you interact within the space, but it’s the added details that allow a space or a brand to truly tell its story.

…design details add moments of expression, awe and/or history that allow guests to fully connect to the space and immerse themselves in the brand.

Above, Chayote sets the mood for an elevated experience, starting with an exterior mural of vines from the chayote plant and layers of texture, colors and prints extending through the restaurant and down the bathroom corridor. Moxy Minneapolis Downtown immerses guests into scenes from Minnesota’s great outdoors, starting with a simple entry pendant lined with a photo of the woods and continuing nods to nature through the hotel and into a quirky bathroom tile installation. 7th Street Truck Park blends playful decor and urban elements with disco balls, graffiti and cargo containers in the vestibule and port-a-potty wall graphics in the laundromat-themed bathrooms.

All three spaces have very distinct vibes and stories behind them, and it’s the details that create those vibes and showcase their story to guests.

So, let’s get down to the details.

The beauty is, guests aren’t going to notice everything the first time — so, with each visit, invite them to discover something new; it’s all in the details.
