Shea-designed Surly Pizza Upstairs brings New Haven-style pies to Minneapolis

Putting together pizza and beer may not be a revolutionary idea, but Surly Brewing doesn’t do anything by the book—it’s always original. When Shea transformed the former fine-dining space above Surly Beer Hall into Surly Pizza Upstairs, a media stir like none other was caused. The first New Haven-style pies in town (each named for a major movie moment) have made a major splash, and the design (including a custom backwards beer-bottle Surly sign that mimics the exterior signage) is making waves, too.
