Interior Design Intern

Join the Shea team in Creating Experiences as an Interior Design Intern this summer in our Minneapolis office.

We’re seeking a student Interior Design Intern with strong interest in restaurant + hospitality, retail, and workplace environments to join our team for a paid opportunity, 40 hours per week mid-May through mid-August. The application may say internship, but it’s really more like a bootcamp: a short, rigorous experience where you’ll be fully immersed in our world of design and architecture.

Learn from experienced designers, architects, and leadership at Shea as you gain hands-on experience developing design packages, creating fit plans, renderings, and researching furniture, finishes and lighting. You’ll contribute directly to projects, collaborating with other members of the team to help our clients reach their goals.

You’ll receive learning opportunities and mentorship as well as the opportunity to enjoy Shea’s culture from everyday office interactions to special events. This includes monthly Shea Celebrates gatherings to recognize our team and learn about exciting Shea happenings inside and outside of our office. In addition, we host monthly rep presentations and lunches where you have the opportunity to learn about new products, network and create lasting relationships. And like any great bootcamp, we’ll send you off with a well-rounded set of skills and, of course, a proper graduation party.

The ideal candidate is highly motivated, thrives in a collaborative environment and has excellent time-management skills to balance project deliverables and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Applicants should have strong design sensibilities with outstanding visual and verbal presentation skills. Additional responsibilities might include organization and updating of the library, meeting with reps, and keeping up-to date on current products.

    WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

    • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within the fields of restaurant and hospitality, retail and corporate services including interior materials, finishes, furniture and lighting
    • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, Revit, 3D modeling software and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)
    • Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in interior design or related program, preferably in a CIDA accredited program
    • Previous internship or leadership experience is a plus
